- 06 regular cab 4x4 with 185K miles stock suspension. Has been going clunk-clunk clunk somewhere in the front end (but who knows) whenever I go over bumps. This has been going on for 4 years. I checked the ball joints 3 times over the years and found no slack. I had the ball joint recall done about 16 years ago, not sure what they did.
- When I drive over bumps/uneven road my car is making a knocking sound. The noise sounds like it is coming from the passenger side at the front of the car. I'm getting it looked at tomorrow, but any ideas what it could be? The exhaust is a bit loose I think but I don't see that it would be causing this noise?
- U joints can make a chirping sound when the roller bearings start to go. :( And if you let them chirp long enough - boy do they start to clunk! Ask me how I know! We need to get a meet going before the sumer is over.

No, it's going over small bumps, or crevices. Normally you check by keeping your foot on brake and putting in drive and giving it a gas, then reverse and have a second person watch if egine tilts or jolts excessively.

It is an indicator that the bottom portion of the motor is in need of some crankshaft journal measuring and attention. If the noise persists after the oil pressure comes up or is heard while the engine is running then the motor should be switched off and the motor taken apart and repaired.

When I'd go over bumps, the bug deflector would move a bit and rub on those rubber pads, producing a really annoying chirping sound. Took me a while to find what was doing it. To get rid of the noise, I just stuck pieces of peel-and-stick felt pads on the bug deflector where it touches the rubber bump pads.

Ok, well I have had a noise in my car for awhile and finally am deciding to address it. It is a popping noise from the front end. I know that GM (I am a GM mechanic) has issues with the steering shafts making the same noise. Now when I turn the wheel I can hear the noise and it sounds like it is coming from the steering shaft.
